It’s The Year of the…Cat?

Yes, according to the Chinese calendar it is the year of the dragon but leave it to fashion to pick their own animal mascot. Simply following tradition would certainly not be in vogue, now would it? The question then on everyone’s lips is “What animal is in for 2012?” and we can tell you that it is the cat.

Karl Lagerfeld recently shared a photo of Choupette, his new pet, that has become a little star in its own right. StyleCaster? They’re totally “smitten” with this kitten.

We’ve also become infatuated with Jason Wu’s mischievous cartoon black cat. It’s got the most fashionable claws we’ve seen yet. It designs part of the Jason Wu for Target collection for crying out loud!

The latest to join this group? Victoria Beckham in all of her sharp angled glory. In a short film to showcase and promote her new lower priced line, Victoria, cats show up in the form of face-masks, patterns and more.

With these fashion superstars endorsing cute little felines in their advertisements (and simply in their personal lives), we wonder how many others will follow suit?

We know one person who won’t mind an influx of stylish cat-inspired fashions: our producer. In an office debate about cats and dogs (don’t ask), she was the only one to stick up for the slinky, felines. We guess this round goes to her.

The P59 Link Roundup

H&M is wasting no time with their high-end designer collaborations are they? Check out a leaked ad of the Marni for H&M collection (Fashionologie) which hits stores in March. Speaking of collaborations! Last night, Jason Wu had a party in SoHo in honor of the Jason Wu for Target collection (Fashionista). Blake Lively was late to the red carpet and ended up stealing poor, little Chloe Moretz’s red carpet thunder. Kate Middleton also stole herself some extra attention recently! The Duchess of Cambridge has just been named the Hat Person of the Year by the Headwear Association (E! Online). We bet Princess Beatrice is pissed.

It’s cool if she is because Madonna might feel the same way. In a little teaser video showing her in the studio with M.I.A. (YouTube), Madge decided to bust a move, she was promptly told to stop. Talk about a royal shut down. In other music news, Amy Winehouse’s father is livid (Entertainment Weekly) because of the recent Jean Paul Gaultier show in Paris that payed homage to her (Style.com).

In happier news, Adriana Lima is still showing off her rocking body. The Brazilian stunner has been in St. Barts for a Victoria’s Secret shoot (Pop Sugar) roughing it out in the horrible (read: amazing) conditions. Former VS Angel, Gisele Bundchen, also got her sexy on for the latest Versace Jeans campaign (OHLALA Mag) shot by Mert & Marcus.

And how about this? Angry Birds is coming to Facebook (Engadget). Happy weekend!

Jason Wu’s Commercial for Target Is Kitten Approved

Jason Wu for Target is set to hit stores February 5 but first it is important that we get to the bottom of who actually designed the collection: a cartoon kitten. Oh, Jason! You tricky, tricky man.

In a commercial for the collection, we see a black cat wreaking havoc in the most beautiful way possible.

The tagline of “Mischief is in the details” is appropriate as Wu recently used that noun to help describe what consumers can expect from this collection. After seeing a preview of the collection, we can see a little lady getting mischievous in these garments. Blair Waldorf, this is all for you!

Jason Wu Unleashes the “ETHOS” Short Film ft. Nick Bateman

Let’s just put it out there: we’re totally scared of Nick Bateman but we’re 100% fascinated by him. He’s a master when it comes to the bo staff, a wooden weapon in the form of a walking stick, and he’s also damn good looking. But his pretty mug sorta gets lost in the lightning speed movements he puts out there, the bo staff whipping and flipping around him as if on a motor.

Bateman teamed up with film director and fashion photographer Jason Wu to film ETHOS, a short film that we first stumbled upon over at W Magazine’s website. In the short, we hear a voice-over of a monologue written by Trey Taylor while Bateman illustrates just why he is a four time World Champion in martial arts and weapons.

If Hollywood ever decides to make another Street Fighter movie to make up from the disastrous 1994 attempt, they should definitely look to bring on Bateman. Watching him handle his weapon of choice in slow motion?

Oh, it’s enough to bring mountains crashing down.

Shot at P59: Jason Wu’s Resort 2012 Film by KT Auleta

Jason Wu’s Resort 2012 collection is pretty rad, providing a wardrobe for the ladies who lunch. Don’t take that as an insult because today’s lady who lunches include mother’s like Miranda Kerr, Doutzen Kroes and Adriana Lima. It’s okay. We know you regret shaking your head in disagreement before reading that list of hotness. But let’s take a closer look at the collection, shall we? There are fantastic yet subtle neon strips, sheer sleeves and scores of feminine prints. lace, a trend we’re completely fawning over right now. The collection images dropped and we clicked through them multiple times before stepping away from the computer, only to come back and resume said clicking. Then Jason Wu popped up in our studios to shoot a film for the Resort collection and we were beside ourselves. Standing outside a studio door? Yeah, that was us. Stalkers.

KT Auleta directed the film which was styled by Kate Young, stars model Hailey Clauson and is all on an incredible set created by Jesse Kaufmann. Check out the video now.

All we want to do is shut down our computer and head out to the beach! Yes, we know it’s sweater time but this video is so inspiring. Okay, we’ll stay indoors and just watch the film again. PS, if you have yet to see the lookbook in full, click over to Jason Wu’s official website now.
