New York Fashion Week Spring 2012 Coverage

We know the fashion crowd has headed across the pond for London Fashion Week but we’re still head over heels for New York Fashion Week. Check out some more great footage shot here at Pier59 Digital Studios during the Bespoken presentation and A Detacher runway show.

New York Fashion Week Spring 2012 Compilation Video

We here at Pier59 Digital Studios had an amazing time during New York Fashion Week hosting some incredible Spring 2012 collections and presentations. Even though a few of us may have morphed into Regina George (only temporarily, thank you very much), we still enjoyed every moment. The lights, the music, the clothes. It was all “so sexy” that we wouldn’t trade it for nothing! In honor of all of the hard work that all parties involved put in, we sliced up a little video compilation just for you. It highlights the designers that showed here at Pier59 with a soundtrack featuring Alternative group, Dom. Watch below!

Done at P59: Yigal Azrouël Spring 2012

Let’s start with a little lesson today, shall we? Does anyone know what the word “obsession” means? Let’s revert to our friend, Dictionary.com. Obsession (noun): the domination of one’s thoughts or feelings by a persistent idea, image, desire, etc. We are obsessed and fully blame designer Yigal Azrouël for leading us down this path. His menswear Spring 2012 collection this season at New York Fashion Week was spectacular.

The outerwear pieces with the leather cowl’s? The denim jacket with the leather sleeves? The drawstring trousers? Is it normal for our hearts to beat this fast? There was a quiet strength in the pieces with enough quirk to be considered modern. We are big fans of the modern here at Pier59 Digital Studios, so this collection was obviously after our heart.

Something else that we were geeking over? All of the incredibly stylish folks in the audience. Jewelry designer Thomas K of Daimyo flaunted accessories of his own creation while Parisian beauty, Laura, rocked some studded Christian Louboutin flats. But the one person to pique our interest the most was Michael Hainey, the always dapper Deputy Editor of GQ magazine.

As we walked away from the show, we were pretty pumped up. Our Twitter (@Pier59Studios) reflected this excitement as well which drove us to look over our footage for the rest of the day. It was, by far, one of the best shows to help close out New York Fashion Week.

Done at P59: Native Son Spring 2012

Native Son’s designer, Kyle Fitzgibbons, doesn’t get to rest after showing his line’s Spring 2012 collection. After New York Fashion Week, Fitzgibbons will head over to Boston before flying out to Asia. Good thing he’s got some pretty solid collections underneath his belt to take abroad and we have to say that the Spring 2012 collection just might be our favorite thus far.As we stood in the audience watching models storm through a sand bag runway, we fell head over heels for the blazers. One in particular caught our eye and has been stuck in our mind ever since: the camel blazer with the white stripe on the underside of the arms. There was a similar trouser and while we might refrain from wearing both together, my goodness do they make incredible statement pieces. And don’t even get us started on the black ostrich and leather jacket. Sick in the best way possible. While chatting with Fitzgibbons, he explained to us that this collection has equal footing in the past, present and future. “It’s the ability to take something nostalgic and take it to an unfamiliar place to progress people’s thinking,” he says about his designs. One of the inspirations for the collection was the spirit in American culture during the Dust Bowl of the 1930′s and 1940′s. Even though some of the pieces might have a heavier appearance, it is a total show. Some fabrics used were an ultra lightweight tweed and waxed cotton. Who knew such a rough time could turn into such a beautiful muse? Check out some backstage shots featuring some of the happiest bunch we’ve seen all season long.

Done at P59: A Détacher Spring 2012

For Spring 2012, A Détacher sent out girly collection with an array of visuals to take in from glittery vests and shift dresses to knee high socks. No matter, the entire collection came off as very clean and comfortable without having an ounce of “boring” present. These are clothes for the demure but slightly unconventional lady. While some of the pieces flowed down the runway, we envisioned the likes of Chloë Sevigny slipping into them for a day out and about. While the collection was solid as a collective, our favorite pieces were the ones adorned with polka dots. With a burlap skirt that sits above the knee and pale purple dress with a three-quarter sleeve, this print reigned supreme with us. Another thing we fancied about this show? How calm the backstage was! Yes, the show took place in the evening and many of us were a bit tired, but there was just honestly a serene feeling that we definitely picked up on. With that and a great collection, we say bravo!
